I hope you all have been enjoying your breaks and are ready for another exciting semester of Skull & Dagger.  This Spring we will be producing Sophie Treadwell's Machinal in the Don Powell.  There will be an open call after Vinegar Tom is cast, but we encourage all members to do the generals as well since the director will also be watching those.  The show
will be cast no later than February 3rd and rehearsals are expected to begin February 20th (though there will be some meetings with individual actors before then).  If cast actors are expected to be off book at the beginning of the rehearsal process.  If you would like to obtain a copy of the script please email <skullndagger@gmail.com>.  There are many roles in the play and the director is planning on casting most actors in multiple roles (with the exceptions of the Young Woman, her lover, and Mr. Jones). The production will run April 5th-7th, meaning both Zanna, Don't! and Vinegar
Tom will conflict.  At this time those involved in Wish II, The Vagina Monologues, and Squawk, will still be eligible for casting in Machinal.

Also, the first Skull & Dagger meeting of the semester will be January 19th at 4:30pm, because Adrian Alita and Peter Cirino plan on doing a monologue workshop in the Don Powell at 5:00pm for generals (currently scheduled for Jan 23rd and 24th), all other meetings will take place Thursdays at 5:30pm in the green room.

-Remember that Thursday, November 3rd is the final deadline for dance theme submissions.  Email Sammie at skullndagger@gmail.com with your ideas for the dance in December!
-The next Improv show is at 7pm on Monday, November 7th in the Don Powell
-Our monologue workshop with Adrian is on Tuesday, November 8th and will start at 6pm in DA 101.
-Skull and Dagger's annual Pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is currently scheduled for Thursday, November 17th at 4:00pm at the benches.  We will provide the turkey but the rest is a pot luck!  Email Sammie about what you want to bring!
-Skull and Dagger's 2012 production has been decided...Sophie Treadwell's Machinal, directed by our own Nathan Bell!  Stay tuned for production and audition details!

Just a few quick updates:

1)  Play submissions are still open until October 13th, please give a copy of the script to a Skull & Dagger officer along with a written proposal that includes your overall vision for the show.

2) Sign ups to sell concessions for Doubt are up on the Skull & Dagger board.  If you sell you get a FREE Ticket to the show.

3) The JV Improv team is looking for members that want to learn improv.  If interested come out and play with them Mondays and Wednesdays from 11am-1pm in DA 101.

4) Start preparing some monologues for a workshop that should be held towards the beginning of November (more info soon).

And finally remember Skull & Dagger meetings are held every Thursday from 5:30pm-6:00pm in the green room.

]]>Sun, 31 Jul 2011 13:35:02 -0800http://skullndagger.weebly.com/1/post/2011/07/2011-2012-presidential-statement.htmlHello all and welcome to the Skull & Dagger Dramatic Society.  I have served this organization for the past two years as its treasurer, and during that time have watched it experience a grand rebirth.  Knowing all that it is capable of, I am now honored to have the privilege to lead it.  Throughout this year I would like to encourage students new and old to work together to create new and exciting Theatre Arts projects.  Further, I would like to reach out to our fellow students in the Television, Film, and New Media Department.  In the past our collaboration has been rather poor, and I know that if we work together we can bring out the best of all our members. Folks, we are faced with severe budget cuts and we must do all that we can to preserve the growth of student-based arts and activities now more than ever.  We must take it upon ourselves to enrich our own educational experience, and make sure it is something we can take with us in the future.

This is the moment we've been waiting for ALL semester.... House of Blue Leaves is opening, and closing this week! Admission is totally FREE! Show dates are April 7th, 8th, and 9th at 7:30pm, and April 10th at 2pm in SDSU's Experimental Theatre. To read a short synopsis of the play, check out the facebook event here.

But that's not all! There are two other student productions about to open as well! ALTO (A Liberated Theatre Organization) is producing The Red Address, which opens April 15th and runs to the 17th. In addition, New Voices is also putting on Jeffrey, running from April 21st to the 23rd. April is proving to be a month full of great theatre! I know I can't wait to see every show, and I hope to see you there!

We found a lot of old Skull & Dagger memorabilia, even a Skull & Dagger photo album from 1995!

This semester, Skull & Dagger will mainly be focusing on our student production House of Blue Leaves, directed by David "Berlyn" Wieland. Stay tuned to our e-mails and meetings to hear about audition dates! Later on this semester, we'll also host our annual Night of Chaos. We have a lot to look forward to this semester! Working on Labyrinth of Desire has seriously tuckered me out, so excuse my lack of blogging. But I'm back now! With many dates and fun things to get ready for!

Next Thursday, October 7th is our first staged reading! It's an informal event, so come ready to sit back, relax, and let your knowledge of plays expand! We're still taking submissions, so email us or let us know at the meeting tomorrow.

Friday October 15th and Saturday October 16th are the days of our 48 Hour Theatre Experiment! We still need writers and/or directors, and actors. The deadline for involvement is THIS THURSDAY! So get those thinking caps ready for an epic Theatre experience!

Thursday October 21st is the deadline for submissions for the Spring 2011 Skull & Dagger Play and Winter Dance themes! You're allowed to submit as many dance themes as your heart desires, so e-mail us or tell us at a meeting! If you wish to submit a play, you must submit a copy of the play, a proposal, and a hard copy of the script. (E-mail us with questions about specifics or for more information.)

On that note, the Winter Dance is Friday, December 10th! Formal attire is recommended, but not required. I know I'll be making use of my prom dress, but you're more than welcome to come in jeans and a t-shirt. We won't kick you out. ;]
